TSI developed the design for a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) signal system as part of an expanded retail development in Maple Valley. This RRFB was installed to enhance pedestrian safety at a King County Multipurpose trail where it crosses SR 516 adjacent to a site driveway that was forecast to experience increased traffic volumes. The proximity of the driveway, which is planned to become a new local commercial street, required careful channelization design to provide necessary pedestrian safety accessibility for the retail center and an adjacent church and to foresee future volumes with a through road connection. The design reflected a blend of these functional needs and the requirements of the City, the Washington State Department of Transportation and King County. TSI has designed or supported designs of RRFB systems in Auburn and on the Costco Headquarters campus.
